Die drei Tänzer Xenia Alexandrou, Matina Kokolaki und Andrea Dorian Rama, alle aus Athen, kennen sich seit 2007 und arbeiten bereits seit 2010 zusammen. Am Freitag hat Ihr Stück Zeno und Nero in Berlin im Dock 11 Premiere, nachdem bereits letzten Januar im ZKM in Karlsruhe Fragmente davon im Rahmen von Sasha Waltz´s New Choreographers Session gezeigt wurden. Berlin Kicks hatte Gelegenheit, die drei zu einem ausführlichen Gespräch zu treffen.

Das Stück dreht sich um zwei Politiker, eben Zeno und Nero. Ein Mann und eine Frau. Es könnte ein hypothetisches Lehrstück sein, bei dem es darum geht, wie man sich am besten lächerlich macht. Trotz völlig unterschiedlicher Erfahrungen, denn beim Tanz steht natürlich Anderes im Vordergrund als in der Politik. Dennoch gibt es auch zwischen diesen beiden Feldern Gemeinsamkeiten. Etwa mit wenig Bewegung möglichst viel zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Ein Politiker bewegt sich für das Fernsehen, also reduziert, mit kleinen Gesten. In nur zwei Dimensionen also. Dies kann auch beim Tanz ein wesentliches Element sein, und es ist ziemlich einfach.
Matina: Es geht um den Fluss zwischen dem Körper und dem Geist, dem Verstand. Ein kompliziertes Geflecht, wenn man herausfinden will, was die andere Person empfindet und denkt. Voraussetzung dafür ist ein neutraler Ort, bei dem alle negativen Einflüsse ausgeschlossen sind. Das ist das Ideal. Und deshalb ist jede Show verschieden, denn das Ideal kann nur annähernd erreicht werden. Die Voraussetzungen sind immer leicht verschoben, niemals völlig perfekt.
Wir arbeiten nicht mit großen Ideen. Wir gehen von Details aus, kleinen Vorkommnissen. Das ist die Grundlage, und daraus entwickeln wir alles Weitere. Die Initiative dabei kommt von jedem von uns, es gibt keine Hierarchie oder festgelegten Arbeitsbereiche. Niemand von uns ist ausschließlich Tänzer oder ausschließlich Choreograph.
Xenia: Doch wenn Du arbeitest, egal auf welcher Ebene, erreichst Du auch ein Resultat. Priorität dabei hat immer das Stück, erst danach geht es um die konkreten Umstände und Bedingungen der Produktion. Und das Resultat verändert sich ständig, wird immer besser, konkreter, ohne dabei von einem vorgegebenen Ziel beeinflusst zu sein.
Die Verantwortung bei nur zwei Tänzern auf der Bühne ist selbstverständlich wesentlich höher als in einer größeren Gruppe, wo es immer sofort auch um Hierarchien geht. Dort kann sich jemand beispielsweise verstecken, wenn er mal keinen so guten Tag hat. Das ist bei nur zwei Tänzern einfach unmöglich. Es gibt auch keinen Boss, der dir sagt wie es aussehen muss, was Schönheit ist. Wir entwickeln diese Schönheit gemeinsam, das ist ein stetiger Prozess.
Da Bewegung ziemlich abstrakt ist, gibt es für uns keinen Erzählstrang als Basis. Alles hängt allein von der Qualität der Bewegung im Raum ab. Und deshalb gibt es auch keine perfekten Übereinstimmungen zwischen zwei Tänzern, keine absolute Synchronizität, denn Menschen sind nun einmal verschieden. Das führt uns zur Illusion, bei der es darum geht, mit wenig Aufwand das maximale Resultat zu erreichen. Die Illusion beim Tanz besteht darin, auf verschiedenen Ebenen gleichzeitig zu spielen.
Andrea: Politik ist dabei die größte Illusion von allen, es ist wie bei einem Magier. Alle wissen, dass ein Trick dabei ist. Doch das Publikum wartet geduldig darauf, beschissen zu werden. Wir wollen aber niemanden bescheißen. Wir wissen, dass ein System immer von innen heraus zu zerfallen beginnt. Nicht durch äußere Einflüsse. Deshalb benötigt das Publikum, das im Verhältnis zum Stück erst einmal außen ist, auch keine besondere Vorbereitung. Lediglich Offenheit und Konzentration.
Dies sind klare Ansagen. Und sie lassen einen sehr spannenden, interessanten Abend erwarten. Jeder sollte also nicht nur am kommenden Freitag im Dock 11 in der Kastanienallee möglichst offen und sehr aufmerksam sein.

The play revolves around two politicians, just Zeno and Nero. A man and a woman. It could be a hypothetical lesson, which is about how to make myself the most ridiculous. Despite completely different experiences, because dance is of course pretty different to politics. However, there are also similarities between these two fields. It´s about how to bring with little movement to express the most. A politician moves for television, very reduced, with small gestures. In only two dimensions so. This can be a key element also in the dance, and it’s pretty easy.
Matina: It’s about the flow between the body and the spirit, the mind. A complex network, if you want to find out what the other person feels and thinks. This requires a neutral place, in which all the negative effects are excluded. This is the ideal. And that is why every show is different, because the ideal can only be approached. The conditions are always slightly shifted, never completely perfect.
We do not work with big ideas. We assume details, small incidents. This is the basis, and from this we develop everything else. The initiative thereby comes from each of us, there is no hierarchy or defined areas of work. None of us is only dancer or choreographer exclusively.
Xenia: But if you work, no matter at what level, you reach a result. Priority is always the piece, only then it comes to specific circumstances and conditions of production. And the result is constantly changing, it is always getting better, more concrete, without being influenced by a predetermined target.
The responsibility for only two dancers on stage is of course much higher than in a larger group, where there it´s always immediately about getting into hierarchies. There, for example, one can hide if he does not have such a good day. This is simply impossible with only two dancers. There is also no boss telling you how it should look like, what is beauty. We develop this beauty together, which is an ongoing process.
Since movement is quite abstract, for us there is no narrative as a base for us. All depends solely on the quality of the movement in space. And therefore there is also no perfect matches between two dancers, no absolute synchronicity, because people are simply different. This leads us to illusion, which is always about how to achieve with little effort the maximum result. The illusion of dance is to play at several levels simultaneously.
Andrea: Politics is the greatest illusion of all, it’s like a magician. We all know there is a trick to it. But the audience patiently awaits to be bullshitted. But we do not want to cheat anyone. We know that a system always starts to fall apart from the inside. Not by external influences. Therefore the audience, which is in relation to the piece on the outside, requires no special preparation. Only open mindedness and concentration.
These are clear statements. And they let us expect a very exciting and interesting evening. Everyone should therefore be as open and attentive as possible, not only next Friday at Dock 11 at Kastanienallee.
